Questions dealers actually ask.

What does Lot Jacket actually do?

Lot Jacket is a deal jacket that fills itself out. You photograph the deal documents; the scanner reads them and the parser types every field — VIN, buyer, odometer, lien status — into the deal. From there it builds the bill of sale for e-signature, updates your inventory board, posts to the ledger, and writes the garage register entry. One system instead of a binder, a spreadsheet and three separate apps.

How good is the document scanner really?

It reads the documents a used-car deal actually produces: vehicle portions, insurance slips, driver's licences, safety certificates, auction invoices and lien searches — photographed on a phone, in dealership lighting, at an angle. The parser then turns that text into typed deal fields rather than a wall of OCR output. Bring your ugliest ownership to a demo and watch it get read.

Can it do wholesale and export bills of sale, not just retail?

Yes. Retail, dealer-to-dealer wholesale, and US export are three separate documents in Lot Jacket, each with its own fields and declarations — all-in pricing and safety status on retail, the as-is declaration and registrant number on wholesale, and port of exit plus title-filing timing on export. You pick the type, pick the car, and send it to sign.

How does the inventory board stay accurate?

Because nobody maintains it. The intake scan creates the unit, recon bills attach to its true cost, the bill of sale marks it sold, and the delivery confirmation closes it out. Cost, days on lot and status are side effects of the work you were already doing — not a spreadsheet somebody has to remember to update.

What exactly is the garage register, and does it update on its own?

Ontario's Highway Traffic Act requires every registered dealer to keep a running record of each used vehicle bought and sold, so any vehicle can be traced — that's the garage register, administered through the Ministry of Transportation on the same headings as the MTO's own form: date, vehicle, and who it came from or went to, in and out. Lot Jacket writes that entry itself the moment a vehicle is acquired or sold, so it never falls a week behind the lot.

Who is Lot Jacket for?

Licensed, operating independent used-car dealers — especially small Ontario lots that handle their own paperwork. It has been built and battle-tested inside working dealerships: Afghan Automotive in Toronto and Momo Cars in Niagara Falls, running real deals for over a year.

What about OMVIC compliance?

It falls out of the workflow rather than being a separate chore. Complete deal files, automatic garage register updates, six-year retention and Ontario-specific checks on every deal mean the file is audit-ready by the time the customer drives off. You stay the dealer of record and stay in control of every record.

Is my dealership's data safe?

Yes. Your deal files, customer information and documents belong to you — Lot Jacket never sells or shares your data, and you can export your records any time. Data moves over encrypted connections. Want the specifics on where and how it's stored? Ask on your demo and we'll walk you through it.

How much does it cost, and can I switch from a spreadsheet?

Core is $249/month and Complete is $399/month, plus a one-time $599 setup. The first 15 founding dealers get every Complete tool for $149/month locked for life with the setup waived. Bulk data migration is included, so moving off a spreadsheet costs you an afternoon at most.

Can I see it with my own deals before deciding?

Yes — that's the recommended way. Book a free 15-minute live demo and bring your own documents: a bill of sale, a deal file, an inventory spreadsheet, whatever you actually work with. You'll watch Lot Jacket process your paperwork, not a canned demo.
